Call for Nominations

The Georgia Society of the American College of Surgeons (GSACS) is seeking nominations for open positions on the Board of Directors & ACS Board of Governors

GSACS Board of Directors Open Positions

  • Young Fellow (3-year term)
  • RAS Associate Representative (3-year term)
  • Women Surgeons Chair (3-year term)
  • Community Surgeons Representative (3-year term)
  • Rural Surgeons Representative (3-year term)
  • (2) Member at Large (3-year term)

To serve, a candidate must be a member of the American College of Surgeons and the GSACS (Georgia’s ACS Chapter) in good standing. Responsibilities include:

  • Attending at least two board meetings per year. Usually only one of these meetings is a face-to-face meeting in conjunction with the Annual Meeting.
  • Providing input and feedback on activities and initiatives of the chapter.
  • Assisting in program development and outreach to the specific membership represented by the position.

In return, representatives have the opportunity to interact with surgical leaders in the state, develop leadership experience, and represent the organization in advocacy and public relations.

ACS Board of Governors Open Position

The GSACS is also seeking self-nominations for a three-year term as Governor on the ACS Board of Governors.

  • Nominees must be Fellows of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of GSACS
  • Nominees must be in active surgical practice
  • Have GSACS leadership experience

Additionally, please note that nominees must be willing and able to accept all duties and responsibilities as follows:

Board of Governor Duties

  • Provide bi-directional communication between the Board of Governors and your constituents
  • Actively participate in a Board of Governors Workgroup
  • Attend the spring Leadership Summit (in-person or virtually)
  • Participate in Board of Governors Pillar Meetings, Convocation, and the Annual Meeting of Members at the annual Clinical Congress
  • Complete the Annual Survey
  • Attend GSACS meetings
  • Provide a report to the GSACS
  • Participate in local Committee on Applicants meetings and Fellowship interviews
  • Promote ACS Fellowship in Georgia
  • Welcome new Fellows from GSACS into the ACS
  • Be an active participant on the Board of Governors online community site

To ensure the candidate has agreed to the position, self-nomination is required. Please submit a Curriculum Vitae along with a brief letter of interest and description of qualifications to the Nominating Committee at kallie@georgiaacs.org by June 10, 2023. Up to two supporting letters may accompany the nomination but are not required.
